Pretrial Services: contacting your case manager

Salt Lake County Pretrial Services lets eligible people leave jail without money bail while their case moves through court. Release comes with conditions: meet with a case manager, check in, go to every court date, and sometimes take drug or alcohol tests. Here is how to stay in contact.

How to contact your Pretrial case manager

Try these in order. Case managers can be reached by office phone, email, or text, using the details they gave you.

  1. Look at your Pretrial Release Agreement. It lists your case manager’s name and contact details, plus your Client ID.
  2. Lost the agreement or the details? Call CJS at 385-468-3500, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and ask to be connected to your case manager.
  3. Send a written message with the county’s Contact a Case Manager form ↗. It asks for your name, email, phone number, and a message. Include your full name, date of birth, and case number so it reaches the right person.
  4. After hours, call the automated line at 385-468-3553 (every day, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.). It gives your court date and tells you if your case manager needs to talk to you.

What to expect on Pretrial

General guidance only. Your release agreement and the judge’s orders come first.

After release

  • Schedule an intake meeting with your Pretrial case manager.
  • They’ll ask about your schooling, work, mental health, and substance use, and go over your release conditions.
  • Keep every appointment. You may be assigned classes.
  • The judge may order urinalysis (drug or alcohol testing).
  • Supervision usually lasts 90 days or more, depending on your needs and how the case goes.

If something goes wrong

  • Missed an appointment or check-in? Your case manager will try to reach you several times. If they can’t, the judge is told and may issue a warrant. Call right away.
  • Arrested or charged again? Your case manager tells the judge, who may issue a warrant. Keep checking in.
  • No attorney? You can hire one, use free legal clinics or court self-help, or ask the court to appoint one if you qualify.
